Interdependence During This Crisis

IMG_0063

What a time we are having. There is no need to list the details since we are all well aware of them. Our world has changed overnight. Many people are suffering, and it is predicted to only get worse. First, there is the issue of physical challenges, including the coronavirus. We are told to minimize our physical connection with others, and practice social distancing. As a result of this, in many states, restaurants and bars have had to close to dine-in customers and limit their offerings to takeout and drive through. Continue reading

What Do We Really Need?

IMG_2518 (1)Years ago, I learned the difference in wants and needs, but too often I have bought items that were clearly in my “want” category. I do not even know where some or even many of those things are. When I find something in my closet that I have worn so few times to warrant the investment, I wish I had the money that was spent on that item. Some of those items were most likely impulse purchases, and often, expensive ones. I am changing that behavior. One of my major commitments (you may call them resolutions) for 2020 is to manage my money, something I have never done. At 68 years of age, it is long past time. It isn’t fun, to say the least, but it is eye-opening. Continue reading

The Little Voice and the Feeling Inside

IMG_2684 (1)How often do we hear a little voice inside of us, or feel in our gut that we should not do something, and we do it anyway? If this resonates with you, you can think of more than one example of this and wish that you had listened to the voice or followed the feeling you had! If you have not experienced this, you can read this to better understand others who are different from you. Continue reading

Before It Is Too Late

IMG_1239 (1)I have often thought about life and death. Not in a morbid way, but in an inquisitive way. I have wondered about the frailty of life, and how some live a very long life, and others don’t. I am not sure that I even know what a “very long life” is, or what constitutes a short life. But I am not as prepared for the loss of a loved one who passes away in their 60’s or before, as I am for one who departs this life in their mid 90’s or later. Continue reading

Making Memories

IMG_2743

Stephen, Elsie, Tara, Mary Grace, and Virginia

For the past six years, our family has taken a winter ski trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  Our children and grandchildren ski, and Mike and I relax, glad to be able to share this time with them. Some years there are more of us on this trip than there is this year. Work and other commitments precluded some of our family from making the trip this year. Daughter Tara and her family and Mike and I are the constants, having been on each trip to Steamboat. Continue reading

Loving (and NOT!) Las Vegas

IMG_2670

Outside of the Excalibur Hotel. The motorized scooter made the trip possible for Mike.

Las Vegas is somewhere I never wanted to go, until I did. I imagined Vegas to be a city of only gall and glamor, a city that never sleeps, and of non-ending buffets. Well, it is those things, but so much more. Continue reading

Inspiration and Motivation

IMG_7008These two words, Inspiration and Motivation, are often thought of and used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing. While I recognize that this distinction can be considered “splitting hairs,” the difference is important. While you can certainly go to the dictionary for the definitions of these two words, perhaps a brief discussion and examples will provide enough information to understand the difference. You can then determine if this information helps you in any way. Continue reading

Don’t Die with The Music Still in You

IMG_1239 (2)Kobe Bryant, dead at 41, along with his 13-year-old daughter and 7 others in a helicopter accident. So sad. There have been accolades from many people since the news of the tragic accident that occurred on Sunday morning in the hills of LA. There has also been an occasional comment on how this larger-than-life basketball star was not a perfect man. Of course, he wasn’t, none of us are perfect. But Kobe Bryant was well-loved and respected by many, and there have been many examples of that. Gone too soon. Continue reading

My Weight Loss Journey, Part II

IMG_2555The date that many people abandon their New Year’s Resolutions, January 17, has passed. If you made New Year’s resolutions, I hope that you are still on your plan. Changes in oneself are the hardest changes to make. But when we are committed, we can change. In 2019 I made a commitment to myself to lose weight and to stop drinking alcohol. I stopped drinking alcohol on May 7, 2019, and I lost 35 pounds since. Before that May date, I had lost 10 pounds, so in the past year I lost 45 pounds, and (so far!) I have kept the weight off. Here is a little information about my story.   Continue reading

My Weight Loss Journey, Part 1

img_0518-1.jpgThis is the time of year that many people are trying to lose the weight they found the rest of the year. Thankfully, I am not on that journey this year.

I have struggled with weight most of my life, and at most times I have been 10-20 pounds overweight. My weight struggles started when I was a teenager, although at that time it was more in the 5-10 pounds overweight category. Continue reading
